Type-2 Diabetes Remission
The latest research suggests that some people, with the right support, can achieve drug free remission of Type-2 diabetes. This means that your blood sugar returns to normal through intensive lifestyle changes, which if sustained, means you may be able to stop all medications for Type-2 diabetes. These lifestyle changes usually include making significant changes to what you eat, your sleep, activity levels, managing stress, reducing alcohol and stopping smoking for example.
Some people decide to stay on Metformin for other health benefits and to help prevent the return of Type-2 diabetes. If you can't sustain the lifestyle changes you made, your Type-2 diabetes is likely to return so you need to keep up with your usual diabetes annual review blood tests and check-ups.
Doctor-led Group Consultations
You will be supported with 3-4 group consultations held on a Tuesday morning with Dr Ellen Fallows. Dr Fallows is a GP at Brackley Medical Centre with additional expertise and qualifications in weight management and Lifestyle Medicine. In these sessions, no private medical information is shared but you can ask questions about the programme, what to expect and what matters most to you about your health. You may also have other one to one consultations with Dr Fallows to adjust your medications if required. Often, after intensive dietary changes such as a fasting-mimicking programme, you will need to stop blood pressure medications and blood sugar medications and monitor your blood pressure and blood sugar carefully.
Dietician Coaching and on-line learning
You will be enrolled in a free 12 month learning programme that will describe the latest scientific research in a relatable and practical way. You will also receive 1:1 on-line dietician coached support. The on-line programme will cover: Understanding Fasting Mimicking Diets and the Research, Monitoring Your Progress, Healthy Eating for Diabetes, Longevity and Nutrition, Restoring Metabolic Health, Physical activity and Muscle Preservation, Meal Planning, Mindful Eating Practices, Eating Away from Home, Staying on Track/Dealing with Slips and Setbacks, Assessing where you are (new goals), Diabetes and Whole Body Health, Tips for Traveling With Diabetes, What to do when you are sick, Sleep health, Beverages (and Hidden sugars), Stress/Meditation/Mental Health, Building and Breaking Habits, Holidays / Vacations, Staying on course
Fasting Mimicking Diet
The Fasting Mimicking Diet has been scientifically developed and tested by a team of scientists lead by Professor Volter Longo. Prolon is the company who makes the fasting-mimicking diet products that have been tested. L-NUTRA is a company that has developed an educational programme to support Type-2 diabetes remission. You can learn more about the programme, their work and the science behind it all on their website here.
